The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe “Abronye,” has leveled serious allegations against the popular clergyman, Prophet Roja. In a statement released on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Abronye alleged that the prophet attempted to extort GH¢1.5 million from the 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. According to the politician, this sum was purportedly demanded in exchange for the prophet publicly rescinding a negative prophecy concerning Dr. Bawumia and the “Ken” factor within the party.
The controversy stems from a previous prophecy delivered by Prophet Roja, which suggested divine disapproval of the party’s leadership direction during the 2024 electoral cycle. Abronye DC claims that the prophet reached out to the Bawumia camp, offering to “rectify” the spiritual narrative if the financial demand was met. These allegations have sparked a heated debate on social media regarding the intersection of partisan politics and the prophetic ministry in the 2026 political landscape.
Furthermore, Abronye asserted that the claims are backed by evidence that he is prepared to present should the need arise. He described the alleged actions of Prophet Roja as a form of “spiritual blackmail” designed to capitalize on the anxieties of political actors. This is not the first time Abronye has targeted religious figures; however, the specificity of the GH¢1.5 million figure has brought a new level of scrutiny to the activities of self-styled prophets who frequently issue political predictions.
As of February 13, 2026, Prophet Roja has yet to issue a formal rebuttal to these specific allegations. Supporters of the prophet have dismissed the claims as a “viral” attempt by the NPP chairman to discredit religious voices that are critical of the party’s performance. Conversely, critics of the “prophetic industry” argue that these allegations, if true, highlight the need for greater regulation of religious activities to prevent extortion and the manipulation of the political process.
