- A herbalist was arrested for hiding hacksaw blades inside a loaf of bread.
- The tools were meant for a robbery suspect on remand at the Kasoa CBD station.
- Police are searching for an accomplice named Emmanuel who supplied the items.
A herbalist has been arrested in Kasoa after an attempt to smuggle escape tools to a high-profile robbery suspect in police custody was foiled. Mohammed Hamidu, 42, was apprehended by the Central East Regional Police Command on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, after officers conducted a routine search of food items meant for a remand prisoner.
The suspect reportedly arrived at the Kasoa Central Business District Police Station around 8:00 pm, carrying a loaf of bread and six bottles of carbonated drinks. The items were intended for Cephas Bubune Sisiawor, a prisoner currently on remand for robbery. However, a discovery awaited officers during the inspection: two newly acquired hacksaw blades had been carefully carved into the center of the loaf of bread.
According to the police roadmap for the investigation, the remand prisoner is believed to have orchestrated the plan to facilitate an escape from the detention facility. Preliminary statements from Hamidu indicate that Sisiawor directed him during a previous visit to collect the “bread” from a middleman identified only as Emmanuel, located near the Lucky Herbal Clinic in Kasoa.

While Mohammed Hamidu remains in custody assisting with further inquiries, the police have launched a manhunt for the accomplice, Emmanuel, who is currently at large. The retrieved blades and food items have been kept as exhibits, and the Command has highly commended the vigilance of the duty officers for preventing what could have been a dangerous security breach in the region.
This incident serves as a stark 2026 reminder of the lengths to which suspects will go to evade justice. The police have issued a strong warning that anyone attempting to compromise the security of state cells will face the full rigors of the law, ensuring that those in custody remain behind bars until their day in court.
