The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a structured payment plan aimed at settling outstanding salary arrears owed to some teachers across the country.
The move comes after months of concerns raised by affected teachers over delays in the payment of salaries and allowances, which have impacted their livelihoods and work.
According to GES, the payment plan is designed to gradually clear all outstanding arrears while ensuring that the process is transparent and manageable within the available financial framework.
Officials explained that the initiative will prioritise teachers who have gone the longest without pay, while also addressing various categories of arrears, including newly recruited teachers and those affected by administrative delays.
The Service acknowledged the challenges faced by affected teachers and assured them that steps are being taken to prevent future occurrences of such delays.
The development is expected to bring relief to many teachers who have expressed frustration over unpaid salaries, with some having previously threatened industrial action.
GES further indicated that it is working closely with relevant government institutions to ensure that all payments are processed efficiently and without further delays.
The announcement has been welcomed by sections of the education community, although many are calling for swift implementation to restore confidence in the system.
