The visit forms part of his strategic nationwide engagement to secure the party’s National Chairmanship position ahead of the upcoming internal executive elections.
In a statement shared via his social media platforms, Chairman Wontumi described the tour as a successful phase in his bid, noting the enthusiastic reception and endorsement from party leadership and the grassroots in the region.
“By the grace of God Almighty, I successfully ended another phase of my bid to lead our great party The New Patriotic Party as the next National Chairman, with a tour to the Central Region, to touch base with the leadership of the party,” he stated.
According to the Ashanti Regional Chairman, his message which centers on hope, restoration, and the rebuilding of a well-resourced party structure has gained “massive acceptance” among the delegates. He emphasized that his vision is anchored on unity and collective effort to ensure the NPP recaptures political power in the 2028 general elections.
“Our people are ready for power. Central Region is also ready and I’m more than ever ready, to lead as the National chairman, to reclaim political power,” he declared, adding that “past mistakes must not repeat itself again.”
It will be recalled that Chairman Wontumi formally declared his intention to contest the National Chairmanship on February 4, 2026, following extensive consultations with party elders. Since then, he has actively toured the Western, Volta, and Oti Regions to garner support.
Indications are that the NPP, currently in opposition after the 2024 polls, is looking to reposition itself. Wontumi has pledged to lead this charge by making the party “attractive again” through grassroots empowerment and financial stability.
The upcoming national delegates’ conference is expected to be a major turning point for the party as several heavyweights jostle for key leadership roles.
