The Oti Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to professional ethics by rejecting a GH¢50,000 bribe offered by suspects involved in the illegal transportation of ammunition. According to an official statement released on Thursday, February 12, 2026, the interception occurred on Sunday, February 8, when a team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maxwell Osafo Adamu intercepted a Hyundai Kia Rhino truck. The vehicle, with registration number GS477-17, was ostensibly transporting building materials but was found to be concealing a significant cache of illicit items.
Upon conducting a thorough search, the Oti Regional Police discovered 21 boxes containing 525 pieces of Lion AAA and BB ammunition, alongside a locally manufactured single-barrel short gun. The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Abubakari Salam Atta and 19-year-old Kabuja Kwadwo Taademe, allegedly attempted to secure their release by offering the officers the aforementioned sum. The news of the officers’ refusal to accept the inducement has been hailed by the public as a significant victory for the ongoing efforts to sanitize the national security services.
The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting the Oti Regional Police with further investigations into the source and intended destination of the ammunition. This successful operation underscores the effectiveness of the Regional Police Intelligence Department’s proactive measures to curb the proliferation of small arms within the region. The decision of ASP Maxwell Osafo Adamu and his team to prioritize the rule of law over personal gain serves as a formal benchmark for integrity within the 2026 security landscape.
Civil society organizations and security analysts have called on the Police Administration to formally recognize the bravery and honesty of the team involved. They argue that such “viral” displays of professionalism are essential in rebuilding public trust and ensuring a safer environment during this election year. The Oti Regional Police Command has reiterated that it will continue to apply the law without fear or favor, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and the illegal possession of firearms.
